About us

We began as a daughter church from Calvary Church Wexford.  A number of people were traveling to Wexford from Gorey and over a period of time as the numbers increased, the desire was put in the hearts of the elders to form “Calvary Church in Gorey”. The church started with just 8 people on 10/02/2008 meeting in an old damp hall once a month for 6 months and then full time from then. God has been so faithful over the years with a congregation now of some 50/60 people.

We meet in a rented room in the Amber Springs Hotel Gorey but with God’s mercy we are hoping to purchase a building within the next few years so please pray for this for us.

We are an evangelical church, which simply means we are a church with a message and our message is our belief in the word of God and the work that Jesus did on the cross. We know this message has changed people’s lives as it did our own. We are ordinary people from different backgrounds struggling with the trials and stresses of life who have found hope and strength in the Gospel. Our aim is to love God and each other. We are committed to His plan of creating a new community of people through the Gospel.

Church history

Calvary Church Gorey was planted by Michael Breen, a native of County Wexford with a background in hotel management. Michael is married to Bernie and they have four children. In the 1980s, Michael had a conversion experience that led him to help establish the Wexford Bible Fellowship. Feeling a strong call to full-time ministry, he attended bible college for a year and became the pastor of the Wexford Church in the 1990s. Noticing that several members from Gorey were attending the Wexford Church, Michael initiated a bible study group in Gorey. As the group grew, Michael and Bernie dedicated themselves to the gospel full-time, leading to the founding of Calvary Church Gorey in 2008. The church continued to grow, and in 2012, Vincent Quinlan and his wife Grace joined as assistant pastor. Michael stepped down as pastor in 2018, transitioning to the role of elder, and early 2024 he stepped down as an elder to retire and now serves the church he planed in Wexford is hometown, Wexford Bible Fellowship. He remains passionate about preaching, evangelizing, and expanding God’s kingdom in County Wexford.

Meet the team

Vincent Quinlan

Vincent Quinlan (pastor)

“I am married to Grace with two grown-up children.  I worked as a chef for 33 years in many different countries. While working as a chef in Co. Claire for 24 years, I also preached and taught God’s word while serving as an elder in Ennis Evangelical Church. In 2010 my job as a head chef got very busy as the restaurant I worked in expanded.  This caused me to give up a lot of my church work. After praying to the Lord, the Lord led me to give up my job as head chef and go to work for the church full-time. in 2012, we sold our house and up-rooted our teenage children, and moved to Gorey to serve in Calvary Church. In 2018, I became the pastor of the church. We love the town of Gorey and enjoy its community.  I am a member of Gorey Tennis Club. I look forward to welcoming you to Calvary Church.”

John Sloane (Deacon)

“I am married to Sylvia and I am deacon in Calvary Church Gorey.”
